About The Peru Church

The Peru Congregational Church has been a cornerstone of the Peru community since 1846. The Church is in continuous use, offering weekly religious services, baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and supporting families during significant life events, across generations. Our church hosts a diverse range of musical events that promote family participation and unity. The Church hosts an annual Christmas Eve choral concert, attended by approximately 200 area residents, as well as Christmas-time children's concerts. The Peru Church is listed on the National Registry of Historical Buildings.

Rev. Steve Longley became the new pastor at the Peru Church in May 2025.   The United Church of Christ ordained him, and he is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, the Graduate School of Social Work at Rutgers University, and Claremont McKenna College. In addition to serving as a minister, Steve is a licensed psychotherapist, father, and devoted husband. Steve and his wife Alison enjoy skiing, music, and walking with their two dogs, Lucy & Ethel.

Our beloved music director, Judy Cyr, has been sharing her musical gifts with the Peru Church for over 16 years. Her leadership brings heart, harmony, and inspiration to every service and special event. Judy and her family have been members of the Peru community for over two decades. In her spare time Judy enjoys playing piano at area hospitals and eldercare centers, and hanging out with her husband and their four children.

Featuring gifted Peru Church members like Jim Bowen, Wendy Galbraith, Deke Jamieson, Amy Chamberlain, Tom Ragland, David Key, Sheila Selden, Pete Johnson, Mason Daring, and more, The Peru Church’s’ Who’s In Town Band brings soulful folk, country, and gospel spirit to our services—wherever the music leads and whoever’s in town. Other frequent performers at the Peru Church are Marietta Formanek, Carol Bowen, Evan Leontis, and Evelyn Bond. Special guest performances from Ida Mae Specker, Chris (Mowgli) Giannitti, and other notable artists occur throughout the year.
